Should I play High School Golf?
Summer golf is winding down. Many high school golf teams have already started practicing and or playing matches and tournaments. I have been asked by several parents, “Should my child continue to play high school golf?” Another question I get, “I heard college coaches don’t even look at high school scores, is that true?” My answer is yes to playing and while high school scores alone may not get you recruited to your dream school, there is value in playing for your team. Remember, every coach is different. They realize there can be painful moments in high school golf and it is possibly not the most high caliber golf. Yet, it is a great opportunity to shoot some low scores and learn to be a patient team member. For the most part, college coaches understand the pain points and they like to see a low number no matter what course or length. Playing on a team shows loyalty as well. So, there are plus factors in playing high school golf other than the scores.
